Born in a small village in Lebanon, Iyshie Mariam Kazeil immigrated to Canada as a young woman during the early years of Alberta's Muslim community. Like many women of her generation, she was denied access to formal education despite having a deep appreciation for learning. Throughout her life, she carried a profound respect for education and often expressed regret that she never had the opportunity to learn to read and write.

Known for her kindness, resilience, and commitment to helping others, Iyshie believed that the support we receive in life should be passed on to future generations. This scholarship reflects her enduring belief in the transformative power of education and her hope that young women would have opportunities that were not available to her.
