Al Rashid Education Foundation. Success is sweet!

Al Rashid Education Foundation (AREF) was founded in 2013 to promote post-secondary education within Muslim communities in Canada and around the world.  AREF awards high school and university students (both undergraduate and postgraduate) who have excelled both academically and in contributions to their community.  Since 2014, AREF has awarded over $500,000 in scholarships to over 200 students.

This initiative is made possible through the generous donations of community leaders who understand the transformative power of education and its contribution to the well-being of not only Muslim communities in Canada but all communities both within Canada and globally. AREF has established an endowment fund with the Edmonton Community Foundation, having successfully raised over $300,000. These funds are being invested in Sharia-compliant financial instruments managed by the Edmonton Community Foundation. The returns on these investments are distributed annually as scholarships, honouring the donors or their loved ones.
